Higher Ed Resource of the Week: Leading Academic Change

Leading ChangeA year ago, Stylus released Leading Academic Change: Vision, Strategy, Transformation by Elaine P. Maimon. She is the president of Governors State University in Chicago, IL. She has been a professor of writing and is considered one of the founders of Writing Across the Curriculum. She led her institution through a transition from an upper-division to a comprehensive four-year institution. The university is noted for innovations based on the best research in general education, such as living/learning communities, full-time faculty teaching all first-year courses, and an award-winning Dual Degree program. Faculty members will benefit from the book as much as administrators since many of the chapters deal with curriculum and instructional issues. A year ago, the Chronicle of Higher Education published an excerpt from the book titled “A Checklist for Transformative Leaders.” The 180-page book consists of ten chapters. It is for sale in paperback on Amazon for $19.33 and in Kindle version for $18.36
